A grieving therapist starts telling his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people’s lives—including his own. Bill Lawrence was asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show. “Ford-type,” and I was going to interview people like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they had to at least take it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford brought the project to him, and that other big-name actors were interested. Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and convinced him to take the part. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was overjoyed nonetheless. Two episodes are now out, and this show is showing great promise, the chemistry between the characters is infectious, and at times even strangely… uplifting in a way that most shows aren’t, reminiscent of Community for those elements alone. I’m not sure if this is an accurate representation of how a therapist deals with issues, but it certainly allows Jason Segel to put his own spin on it. Harrison Ford plays Dr. Rhodes, Jason’s boss and mentor of sorts. I wasn’t sure how his character would come across in this show, but Rhodes’ antisocial nature certainly plays into the personality Ford encounters quite a bit, when you think about the more terrifying elements of his Han Solo character in Star Wars, it just fits in perfectly with this show. Somehow Sean (Luke Tennie) plays the role of Jimmy’s (Segel) son, while he himself deals with family issues with his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell)… What I see here seems so vivid and there could be endless possibilities (?) as I see Jimmy dealing with these things. By the way, the theme song to this show is so good, I didn’t even skip it when I watched the second episode… And the music in this show is so good. Overall, it’s shaping up to be really great and I hope it only gets better from here.
