Claire Beauchamp Randall, a nurse during World War II, mysteriously travels back in time to Scotland in 1743. There she meets a charming Highland warrior and becomes embroiled in an epic rebellion. Moore (the TV series’ developer), his crew decided to keep the Gaelic words instead of translating them into English.

This kept the narrative in the first person while showing Claire’s inability to understand Gaelic

The idea was suggested by producer David Brown, who said he saw something similar in Skin Deep (1998), a foreign alternate history film starring actor and singer Gustavo Goulart; an American term that only came into use in the 19th century. The opening theme song changes from season to season to reflect what is happening in the plot. In the first half of the second season (set in France), some of the lyrics are in French.

In the second half of the second season (which is mostly about the buildup to war), there is a militaristic drum roll added to the opening theme song. In season 3, tribal drums are added as much of the season is set in the West Indies. In season 4, bluegrass fiddles and banjos are added, plus some lyrics are sung in a southern accent as the season is set mostly in America.

But my goodness, the start of season 3 was a chore

I’m late to this series and managed to binge it all the way up to season 7A in a month. The first 2 seasons feel like a completely different show, it keeps me hooked and just wanting one more episode.

Really the wrong actress for the part

I know a lot of people don’t like Richard but man, I love him as Roger, he just brings realism to the character to me. Sophie, however, comes across as a drama student trying too hard to play a spoiled brat. Her scenes are downright painful to watch and there is no chemistry between her and Richard, and man, whose idea was that terrible accent?
